Woah. Woah, woah, woah.
I finally got around to reading this after constant recommendations from my friends, and I finished it in one sitting. I was nervous about starting my reading rush with this series because if I can't guarantee that I wouldn't dnf the entire series. Luckily, I had absolutely no problem falling in love with this book.
I don't even know what to say about this novel yet other than the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has been almost two months since I've read anything from the fantasy genre (the last being The Hazel Wood), so it took me some time to readjust to the suspension of disbelief. I am a sucker for dark academia and fantasy –– in the right hands –– so this book was a perfect mixture of both.
I really loved Adam Parrish's character the most. I know he isn't the romantic interest of her destiny, but, god, couldn't he just be? Anyways, guess who is going to murder a father. I promise it isn't me.
On his terms, or not at all. I will be your hands, Adam thought. I will be your eyes.
Blue is such a fun lead heroine. It's not that I tend to dislike main protagonists; it's just that a lot of series have a case of side-characters-are-better (not complaining!), so it's always new to me when I actually do really like the main character as much as the rest of the cast.
Indignation had eliminated all higher functions and all that remained was the desire to slap him.
Noah, the kid, my boy. With a perkier than Nico di Angelo energy. Like a scamp.
I’ve been dead for seven years,” Noah said. “That’s as warm as they get.
Ronan sounds like he would definitely shut the door when Christmas carolers show up, but I'm assuming he's gonna be that seems-like-a-jerk-but-is-so-loveable-despite-it.
He’d chosen his weapon well: only the truth, untempered by kindness.
And for the main event, Gansey. I hate him and love him at the same time. The amount of love for this messy yet organized journal of his reminds me of my own. But he's so fucking weird. However, as a lover of mint, I will give him a point there.
...Whoever put that journal together must love the hunt itself, the process of research. The aesthetic properties of the journal couldn’t be accidental; it was an academic piece of art.Nobody:
Gansey: safe as life
I think Stiefvater is incredibly skilled in writing that mix of slow burn angst, and I can already tell I'm going to love it. “She wondered what it would’ve been like to kiss this hungry, desolate boy.” Shatter me, Stiefvater.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
