I dnf'ed this, so take my thoughts with caution.
Maybe this was just too contemporary for me or something.
When I read the book's dedication, “For the weirdos & the dreamers," I did not realize it really meant for the dreamers. The politics that are talked about in the book were just excessive to me.
I can definitely see where the majority of the positive reviews were coming from, but this just wasn't for me.
When I read romance that isn't set in a non-realistic universe, I don't expect to have to suspend my disbelief as much as I had to for this. I really wanted to like this book. Maybe I will revisit this novel in the future.
I think the novel is worth a try for anyone though. The reasons I disliked the book were very me. The humor didn't hit me, and I found it kind of tacky. I didn't have issues with how the novel was written or the plot. It's just that, like my last review, I don't think I was the target audience (although I am LGBT).
