“She’s not boring, though. I’ll give her that.”

I was really struggling to get through this book. I had high hopes for it ever since I saw it displayed at the library last year. The cover and plot are very interesting. A poster of The Breakfast Club hangs in my bedroom wall.

Don't get me wrong. It had a lot of the makings to be interesting, and it even had an LGBT character! But there was a lot of reliance on convenience. It really just didn't seem plausible to me. The entire investigation seemed to just heavily neglect the obvious truths.

IP addresses can be tracked, so even if they came from a public library, that puts a time stamp and requirement for someone to show up to a place repeatedly. Public places that (surprise!) probably have security cameras. Additionally, Tumblr of all things is wildly easy to track. They were one subpoena away from getting the original e-mail used to create the blog, which would further better their chances of solving the case. I also have strong issues with the fact that security camera footage did not clear the innocent.

Maybe I'm just nitpicky or expecting too much from a realistic fiction work.
If you are able to disregard these issues, you could still enjoy the book. I couldn't look past them though.

Also, the weird slut shaming. I get it? The point was that other kids view her like that, but it's an interesting choice to have no real arguments against it. Misogyny is just misogyny unless challenged.

“I’ll keep you warm. Put on something a little cuter, huh?”
Don't get hypothermia to impress a boy.

“It takes a few seconds for the word written in thick black Sharpie to sink in.
WHORE.”
Ingenious. who would’ve guessed?
