This book had a terrible effect on me. I loved it a lot, but I feel delirious and have felt this way ever since I started this book. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I felt sick. I had to take days of breaks between reading it to recuperate. It's really been an ordeal. I really loved it though, regardless. I was buddy-reading it with my friend, and we've been up and down together. It's a really great read for an English Literature major that is also studying classics. I think I have to lie down for the rest of the day now though.
I feel frightened and lost now.
Synopsis
Under the influence of their charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is a world away from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of normal morality they slip gradually from obsession to corruption and betrayal, and at last - inexorably - into evil.
